This feels unheard of in professional sports.

Is there anyone who knows why we can’t turn him into a reliever for a few years in a Matsui long reliever kind of role? It would severely reduce his workload. Maybe I missed something about why that isn’t being explored.

He likes being a starter. He’s said in the past coming out the bullpen (like in the WBC) was very strange for him and it threw him off (he gave up a HR). Probably a case of “can’t teach an old dog new tricks” kinda thing. If he’s playing, he wants to be a starter.
