もちろん今回の結果はがっかりだけど、これまで高裁で6回争われてきて、合憲って言ったのは今回が初めてなんだよね。6件中5件は同性婚に前向きな判断だったし、世論調査でも日本の大多数は同性婚に賛成してる。すでに合法化してる国より賛成率高いぐらい。だから落ち込むけど、大きな流れで見れば希望はあるよ。
While obviously pretty disappointing, it’s worth pointing out that this issue has been taken to six high court hearings so far and this is the first and only judgement that has deemed it constitutional. So five out of six rulings have been largely pro same sex marriage, and repeated polling has shown the vast majority of average Japanese support it, considerably more so than in many other countries who have already legalised same sex marriage. So a bit of a downer yeah, but worth taking in the larger picture.

政府自体はそこまで反対してるわけじゃないんだよね。ただ、伝統的な考えの人たちには受けが悪いからって感じ。ちなみに彼らは海外で挙げた同性婚は認めてるけど、日本はそうじゃないんだ。
The government doesn’t really have an issue with it. It’s more that it would be unpopular with traditional minded people. Though they do recognise a same sex marriage officiated abroad, which Japan doesn’t.
