You might see a dip in the next few weeks. Very few people are going to cancel a trip that they are about to leave for. But I’m sure they’ll be running campaigns in Taiwan now so the effect won’t be too major.

タイでも同じことあったの思い出したわ。中国人観光客が誘拐騒ぎで来なくなった時さ。来る前は「うるさい」と文句言われて、減ったら「ざまあ」って喜ばれて、さらに来なくなると「なんで来ないんだ」って文句。マジで変な流れだった。
I remember similar responses in the Thailand sub when Chinese tourists stopped going there after a spate of kidnappings. Before the drop there were posts and comments complaining about Chinese tourists. When the drop was happening there were cheers among redditors. Then when the drop persisted there were posts and comments complaining that Chinese tourists weren’t showing up. It was a weird thing to see.

オーバーツーリズムの不満ってスペインとかイタリアでも同じだよ。反グローバリズムと似てる。観光やグローバル化って経済的には儲かるけど、恩恵を受けるのは社会の一部だけだから、恩恵ない人は悪影響だけ受ける。だから本来は政府が利益をうまく分配して説明すべきなんだよ。
Overtourism complaints are the same everywhere, in Spain and Italy too. They’re similar to anti-globalization protests. Because tourism and globalization are overall moneymakers, but benefit specific groups of society. So if people are not one of the benefiting groups, they suffer only the harms without the benefit. It’s the government’s job to properly distribute the gains across society and explain to the people.

日本経済にとってインバウンド観光はタイほど重要じゃないと思う。それに、タイと違って日本に住んでる英語圏のレディット民で中国人観光客の恩恵受けてる人って少ないだろうし。
Inbound tourism is far less important to Japan’s economy than it is to Thailand’s. Also, I would guess there are far fewer English speaking redditors in Japan that benefit from Chinese tourism than in Thailand.

It’s extremely bad because a lot of items come from China and huge amounts of businesses will close if trade goes sideways.
