自分も美しい秘境の道の上で、一人で無防備な状態で熊に遭遇したんだ。最初に見かけたとき、動けなくなって、どうしようか考えたんだけど、その後熊は姿を消したんだ。歩き続けていたら、茂みの中から唸り声が聞こえてきたから、突然の音や動きで驚かせちゃうと思って、そのまま歩き続けたんだ。運よく生きて帰れたよ。

I encountered a bear on a beautiful remote stretch of the Michinoku, alone and unarmed. When I first spotted it, I froze and considered my options. Then it disappeared. I kept walking and heard a growl from the underbrush, so I just kept walking since I heard sudden movements and noises like running startle them. Survived by some miracle.

去年、兄と一緒に日本のホテルに泊まってて、テレビをつけたんだ。そしたらこれが放送されてて、熊が遊んでるみたいで、男の人が空手の練習でもしてるかのように叫んでるのが面白すぎて、2人で爆笑してたんだ。数週間前に兄からこのリンクが送られてきたよ。でも、みんな無事で良かったね。

My brother and I were in a hotel in Japan last year and I turned on the TV. This was playing and we were laughing our heads off because the bear looked like he was playing while the man kept yelling like he was practicing karate. A few weeks ago he sends me this link. Glad everyone is okay though.

日本じゃ銃なんて忘れなよ。熊に襲われるための防御手段として銃を持つことすらできないんだから。

And in Japan forget about a gun. You can’t even own a gun for protection from getting mauled by a bear.

日本に住んでるカナダ人だけど、このクマで死者が出るなんて驚きだよ。あいつら、クマにしてはめちゃくちゃ小さくて、すぐに逃げるしね。でも、森に入るときはクマに備えないといけない。場合によっては、クマスプレーじゃなくて銃を持っていくべきだよ。それと、もしクマに遭遇したらどうすべきかも知っておかないとね。落ち着いて、大きく見せて後ろに下がることが大事。もし攻撃されそうになったら、黒クマなら反撃、茶クマなら倒れろ（もしくは撃て、グリズリーの領域には絶対に銃なしで行かないこと）

Canadian living in Japan here. Im surprised anyone died from these bears, they are extremly small as far as bears go and skittish. That said, when you go into the woods be prepared for bears, and in some cases that means guns and NOT bear spray. Also, know what to do when confronted by a bear too, try to be calm make youself look big and back away. If confrontation occurs, fight back if its black and go down if its brown (or shoot it, never ever go into grizzley territory without a gun)

面白いね…日本では人々が田舎を離れているから、クマたちがその土地で生きられるようになっているけど、アメリカでは開発が進みすぎて、野生動物が住むスペースが足りなくなっているんだよね。

Interesting…Japanese are leaving rural areas so bears can live on the land, but in the states there is too much development and wild life in need for land space.

日本のYouTuber、葉田ルコが人間の食べ物を使ってクマをおびき寄せ、視聴回数を稼ごうとしたことがあったんだよね。彼はクマに人間の食べ物を与えることで、クマがさらに人間の食べ物を探すようにしてしまって、それが原因でクマが人間のエリアをうろつき、人を攻撃するような事態を招いたんだ。

There was a Japanese youtuber Ruko Hada who use human food to lure bear and gain views. He is basically training the bear to find more Human food which leads to bear roaming and attacking people.

東部アメリカでは、狩猟を強化したことでクマの数が4倍に増えたんだよね。それがクマを賢くし、接触を避けるようになり、結果的に人間にも安全になった。成功した事例だけど、ニュースではあまり取り上げられてないし、政治的にも触れにくいテーマだ。

In the eastern USA Bears have increased 4x by more intense hunting. Makes them smarter, safer to be around and increases their numbers. Great success story but not in the news not pc.

あれがもし普通の大人のクマだったら、状況は全然違ってたよね。大人のクマって、力が強いし、もし攻撃的になったら本当に危険だよ。やっぱり、冷静に対応するのはかなり難しいと思う。どんなに準備してても、命の危険を感じる瞬間はあるだろうから、クマに対する知識や対策が本当に大切だね。
