たぶんつまずいて、
ベルトが下に巻き込まれるところに腕が入ったんじゃないかな。
だから腕が潰されて、
失血で亡くなったんじゃないかって推測してる。
どの記事も具体的な状況までは書いてないけど。
From the photo it looks like the end of the conveyorbelt, so he probably tripped and his arm went in where the belt rolls under the surface. So my guess is his arm got smashed and he died of blood loss? None of the articles go into specific details.

いわゆるクラッシュ症候群のことだと思う。
手足や体が強く圧迫されると、
押さえつけている圧力のおかげで血液が体内に留まり、
その間は意識を保ったり生きていたりすることがある。
失血で死ななかったとしても、
外傷そのものが致命傷になる場合もあるし、
圧迫が解けて血流が再開した時に、
毒素が全身を巡って死亡することもある。
You’re thinking of Crush Injury/Syndrome.
In cases where limbs or the body is crushed, the victim may only be kept alive/awake by the pressure of whatever is crushing them as it keeps the blood in their body. If they don’t die from blood loss, they either may die as a result of the physical trauma itself, or die as blood recirculates with toxins in the blood stream.

From watching it on the news it looks like his arm got stuck at the top end of the belt where it goes back underground, but not positive.

何かがちょうど悪い形で挟まると、
本当に恐ろしいことが起きるよ。
つま先、指、足、髪の毛とか。
イベント現場で働いてた時、
実際に足を巻き込まれた人を見たことがある。
You’d be surprised what kinds of awful things can happen with any kind of escalator if something gets wedged into just right. Toes, fingers, feet, hair, etc. I worked at an event where someone managed to get a foot in one before.

止まるものもあるし、
止まらないものもある。
それに、
エスカレーターのどの位置かにもよる。
感度を上げすぎると、
ナプキンやヘアゴムが落ちただけで毎回止まっちゃう。
機械のあらゆる角度すべてに、
完全なフェイルセーフを仕込むのは無理なんだ。
自分が見てきた中で最悪だったケースは、
端じゃなくて、
側面の機械部分に挟まれた事故だった。
Some do some don’t, and it depends where you are on the escalator. If you make a feature like that too sensitive then it’s going to seize up every time someone drops a napkin or a hair tie on one. There’s no way to enact a failsafe like that on every angle of the machine too. The worst cases I’ve personally seen got wedged into machinery on the sides, not the ends.

In the US there’s always someone supervising the end and beginning of each lift and belt. These aren’t like escalators they are very dangerous machines.

スキースクールは必ず、
カーペットが動いてる間、
上に非常停止を押せる人を配置してた。
In my experience also. I worked in New Zealand and the ski school always had someone stationed at the top ready to push stop when the carpet was operating.

I’m so confused, conveyor belt lifts are probably the safest kind of lift there is. I’ve never seen one that had hand rails. How do you even get injured by it let alone die? It’s like a moving walkway in airports

休暇で東京に滞在してるんだけど、
駅によっては、
ホームと電車の間の隙間がめちゃくちゃ広いところがあるのに気づいた。
みんな自然と避け方を覚えてるのかな？
普通に落ちてもおかしくないと思う。
まあ、これは全然別の話題だし、
今回の件でご両親がどれだけ辛いかは心から思う。
ただ、日本の安全管理ってどうなってるんだろうって、
純粋に気になった。
Being in tokyo for a holiday, I’ve noticed there’s a massive gap between the platform and the train at some stations. Does everyone just learn to avoid it? One could easily just fall through.
I know, completely different problem, and I feel for the parents deeply. Just curious about the management of safety hazards in japan.
